Speaking positive, faith-filled words can shift our mindset from negativity to hope, helping us focus on God's promises rather than our problems.
Words have POWER!

Introduction: I was one of those people who thought that words were just words. Words don’t matter and they don’t make that much difference. At the same time, being around someone that never has anything positive to say always seemed to make things no fun.

I don’t think I’ve ever told anyone about the time when my words seriously changed the atmosphere. I was an Assistant Manager at a pizza place, and it was a Friday night. We were busy, which was to be expected. But it seemed like there was chaos in the atmosphere. This is going to be a little hard to explain so please stay with me. It was like I was in one of those comedy movies where everything went wrong. Every area of the restaurant had something going wrong. It got to the point that I just didn’t know what problem to tackle first.

I went to the dish washer room, I was alone, and I hit the paper towel dispenser and said out loud, “STOP!”. At that moment it felt like all the chaos that was spinning around me like a storm had just stopped. It was such a difference that I noticed it immediately. So much in fact that I stood there for a minute with a WOW on my face.

From that time going forward I tried to watch and see if I could do it again. My words may have had an effect again but not to that degree that I can remember.

Moving to the part of my life that I have rededicated to the Lord. I thought I knew all I needed to know about Jesus. When I rededicated and began attending church, the pastor there was teaching and preaching like I had never heard before. He preached that our words have power. (See below: “Genesis 1 The History of Creation”)

I remember going to work at a retail store after church. I had a pocket Amplified version of the New Testament that I carried in my pocket in case I wasn’t busy or was on break. While I was driving there, I would just talk out loud because the Holy Spirit was right there with me, in the passenger seat. I was talking to Him about the sermon. The conversation went a little like this:

My mind always seems to be complaining. It always seems to be pointing out the negative. You know, all the reasons to not be happy. What am I supposed to think or talk about if everything in my mind is about what is wrong? I would try to think of different things to see if I could bring my thoughts into a positive place. That didn’t happen.

Then I go on break. I pray, “Lord, I just can’t seem to stop thinking of negative things. What am I supposed to think about? Help me to change my thinking and speaking so that I am not causing my life to be negative.” Then I opened that little pocket Bible and this is what I saw:

Philippians 4:8

Meditate on These Things

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

I was really Wowed that the Holy Spirit could answer my question in such a way that there was no doubt that I was not alone and God really did hear and answer prayer. I knew He did but wasn’t sure He would for me. And here I was, getting an answer to pray in a way that was clear and without doubt.

Genesis 1         The History of Creation

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness [a]was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. [b]So the evening and the morning were the first day.

6 Then God said, “Let there be a [c]firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” 7 Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.

9 Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.

11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 So the evening and the morning were the third day.

14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16 Then God made two great [d]lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. 17 God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

20 Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living [e]creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the [f]firmament of the heavens.” 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23 So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over [g]all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that [h]moves on the earth.”

29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. 30 Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is [i]life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. 31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Further your Faith:

Words can strengthen our faith by shaping our thoughts, attitudes, and connection with God. Speaking positive, faith-filled words can shift our mindset from negativity to hope, helping us focus on God's promises rather than our problems. Through prayer and scripture, words become a tool for communication with God, allowing us to express our trust and receive guidance.

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit."

Matthew 12:37

"For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

Romans 10:17

"So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer."

Ephesians 4:29

"Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers."

Hebrews 10:23-24

"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works."
