Introduction: Have you ever noticed that there are times when it feels like you live in lack and then there are times when you think your ship came in, just to feel like your ship left without you. Then it feels like the cycle repeats?

Scripture:

“While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.”

Through our life we all experience seasons of good and bad times. God will always sustain us through every season if we trust and belief in him.

Well, I have worked a lot of jobs. It is almost embarrassing. Unless you know me, you would think that I could not hold down a job. Always trying to do better has not always worked out for me. Anyway, there are several reasons I must keep track of where and when I worked for someone.

I have an excel sheet where I keep track of all the jobs that I worked or the places that I've volunteered. It seems like a lot of jobs and places. As I updated the list, I started to see a pattern. And as I was thinking back on the events in my life that surround those changes and shifts in my working experience, I started to see that pattern become a little clearer than before. I took this to the Lord in prayer.

Holy Spirit please show me what this pattern means. Are you trying to tell me something through these events in my life?

He nudged me to go back and reread Genesis 8:22. I thought to myself, wow, this is me! Then I went back and reviewed the excel sheet I was updating and placing the events that surrounded each change in my life and the pattern that showed up was definitely seed time and harvest.

The word says:

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

So, I asked, “Holy Spirit please bring to my remembrance what surrounded these changes in my life so I can better apply your word in my future. Thank You Jesus.”

It did not come all at once, but the memories did come.

There came a time when I felt really blue. Sick to my stomach depressed. I felt like I was living in a sealed plastic bag and no matter how hard I tried I just couldn’t poke a hole in that bag or find a way out. My outlook was dull; I struggled with hope and joy. I felt stuck with limited life. I did not want to do anything, and I felt that nothing mattered anyway.

So, I went to the Lord in prayer. In my mind I would step out of my current situation and picture myself standing with the Holy Spirit or Jesus (one in the same) and having a levelheaded conversation with Him.

Me, “What is this that is driving my feelings? Is there something wrong with me? Am I in a battle that I’m not fighting back in? Please show me what this is so I can overcome it. I know You did not promise easy but You did promise victory. Please help me.”

Nothing…...

I just stayed in the calm silent place a little longer.

Then the light bulb came on. What time is it? It’s July! Oh, my goodness, it’s seed time because September is my harvest. Rather than letting myself spiral, I reminded myself daily that harvest was near. Hang in there a little longer. Harvest is coming.

Seed time is the time when you are just dry, empty, and struggling to find hope and purpose. It is the time you give of yourself. When you’re giving your time and your talent when you do not feel like you have anything to give, or you don’t want to give. This is when you press in and make yourself look for opportunities to give, for people to compliment and places to donate to or volunteer. This is when you smile and walk slowly through life being careful of the decisions you make when what you really want to do is scream and run. The time to take your vitamins and go to bed early every night.

For me, it was the time when I thought I would never get insurance and get my hip surgery. The time when I could not dress myself. Then I lost the job I had, and I could not get an interview. When everything seemed to break and the utility bills increased. When I made jokes about changing my name to Job Murphy (do you get it? -Job lost plus more challenges and Murphy’s law says if it can go wrong, it will). Then my husband got sick and was put in the hospital. My mom dies suddenly from COVID. My sister is forced to leave her house because they found lead based paint. And the list goes on.

Harvest time is when all the breakthroughs begin to show up like a parade of brilliant flowers. I got hired for a job I never thought I could get. I’m finally working with a team that is laid back and amazingly accepting of my weird personality. A job that will give me insurance right away and allow me the time off for my surgery even though I only worked there two weeks. A job with fantastic benefits. My husband gets better; my sister finds a place (small but it makes her live a simpler life). And the list goes on. After a couple of months, you find yourself drifting back into that dry, hard place of seed time. The cycle repeats. “Holy Spirit, what am I fighting here?” ……...” What time is it?”

Father God in the name of Jesus, Your word speaks of seed time and harvest. We come before You right now and thank You for Your word. That You are a God of Your word, and Your word never returns to You void (unsuccessful). There are people like me who feel like they are chugging along with their wheels spinning in the mud. I am asking you Lord Jesus, please reveal to us our seed time and harvest. Holy Spirit, please provide supernatural introductions, opportunities, and breakthroughs in such a way that there is no doubt that it is You. Give us eyes to see and ears to hear so we will not miss one opportunity to plant  seeds. Please shower upon us wisdom to know what seeds we are planting and where. Help us to not lose heart, to never give up, and to always hang on to hope. And in those times when things are very dry and hard, bring to our remembrance that Harvest time is coming. Also, dear Lord, help us remember during harvest time that we need to give You the glory and the praise. Help us to represent You well during every season. Let both seed time and harvest be times when we remember to praise You, to give You glory out loud, and to share Your word. In Jesus name

When you find yourself face-to-face with those who are not exactly honest, who don’t exactly treat others the way they want to be treated, and who can’t seem to be fair in anything they do. You know, the ones that lie, cheat and steal. You don’t have to stay around them and let them shred your life. Ask for clarity and remember that seed time and harvest apply to them also. Except they may not want to call it a harvest. It will definitely be payday.

Father God in the name of Jesus, for those who are not living for You, for those who are mistreating Your children, I pray Holy Spirit You would heal their conscience. Please, help them to see the error of their ways and give them dreams so they can see the consequences of their actions. Father God, please prepare their heart and mind to receive the good news of Your word. And help us dear Lord to know how to act and react to these people in such a way that it drives them to You and not away from You. Help us to know that You are the God of all circumstances and You are working them all out together for our good. Please Lord Jesus, help us to act right during the seed time in Jesus name.

Further your Faith:

These verses remind us that no matter what season we are in, God offers us hope and a fresh start. By trusting in Him, we can embrace new harvests and a chance to sow new seeds with confidence and faith.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot."

Daniel 2:21

"He changes times and seasons; He deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning."

2 Corinthians 9:6

"Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously."

Romans 8:28

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose."

Isaiah 55:10-11

"As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is My word that goes out from My mouth: It will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it."
