In times of turmoil, finding peace can feel impossible, but faith in Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, offers profound solace. Many experience deep emotional struggles that leave them overwhelmed and unable to breathe. When someone declares, “I command peace in Jesus’ name,” it can evoke a wave of tranquility, demonstrating that God's peace is available to all who seek it. This powerful declaration serves as a lifeline, highlighting the importance of accepting God's peace, even when it doesn't come as expected, and reminding us that the Prince of Peace guides us through life’s challenges.

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Our Lord Jesus is the Prince of Peace.

One day I went to the altar for prayer, and I was prayed for by the pastor's wife. I was extremely upset, I can't recall what my prayer request was—only that it was serious, and I struggled to breathe. Have you ever cried so intensely that you couldn't catch your breath? That's exactly how I felt. Before she prayed for my request, she gently placed her hand on my chest, right below my chin, in a completely natural manner, and declared, “I command peace in Jesus’ name. Suddenly it felt like a wave or a breeze flow over me and suddenly I could breathe. I still had strong feelings about what I wanted prayer for, but I was no longer upset to the point that I couldn't breathe.

So, I thought, the Bible says that God is not a respecter of persons. If He's willing to do it for one person He's willing to do it for another person. The next time I felt upset and couldn't catch my breath I said the same thing, “I command peace in Jesus' name". It worked! I thought “WOW!”

Another opportunity is when I would work in the church nursery, I would take the babies that were crying. I would whisper in their ear, “I command peace in Jesus’ name” and they may or may not stop crying. Sometimes it wasn't right away, but they would eventually start to catch their breath. I thought, “wow this is great”. So, every time I worked in the church nursery, I would make it a point to take the crying kid’s room.

Yet another opportunity is when my husband would pick up his youngest daughter for visitation. She would cry to the point she would make herself sick. I've seen her get cold sores from it being so upset and crying so hard. One day, my husband asked me to pick her up for a visit. As usual, she was crying intensely. I remembered the promise of the Prince of Peace. It was just the two of us in the car and her in the back seat. I prayed under my breath, “I command peace in Jesus’ name”. I waited for a few minutes, and nothing happened. So, I said it again, instead of commanding it I asked for it, “Holy Spirit please bring Your peace in Jesus’ name”. Again, I waited and nothing happened.

I prayed, “Holy Spirit, when Your Peace is requested, it always comes. Why is it not coming this time? Am I praying wrong, is there something wrong with me?”

Then I heard the still small voice say, “You prayed for peace, and I came but she did not receive me.”

I thought, "Wow! She's crying because she wants to." At that moment, I decided to approach the situation differently. Rather than softly trying to comfort her, I used a firm tone and confronted the reality. “I know you are crying because you want to. I’m sorry you don’t like the visits, but crying isn’t going to change things. You are going to have this visit with your dad whether you cry or not. Crying isn’t any fun so you may want to decide to stop crying and help us have fun!” Then it only took a few minutes for the crying to stop and the whole visit went way better.

Life is what it is sometimes. We can’t ask for things and then not accept them when God sends them because we don’t like the process. And if you surrender to God’s plan but you don’t like the route, crying isn’t going to change the route. So, when you don’t like the route, you may want to pray a little differently. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you how to enjoy the route, what you are supposed to be learning, teaching or focusing on through this route. The answers to these questions can help accomplish what God has for us.

Lord Jesus, Thank You that You are faithful. We pray and hope for many things. We don’t always know when, how or through what route you will answer our prayers, but we know You are faithful. Holy Spirit please help us to know what we should be learning and focusing on during our tough times. Help us to know who we should be encouraging and lifting up. Help us make this time of challenge to be as productive and as successful as possible. Thank You that You love us enough to let us walk with You. In Jesus’ name.
